This is the sister
project to the picture frame as they are made from the same board.
The top is half-blind dovetailed to the sides, done completely by hand
except for a little help from the bandsaw for the tails. I have a
real hard time making the angled cuts for tails by hand so the bandsaw
has been my savior there. Even so, there are still numerous wedges
to fill in the gaps. I still don't know how Klaus does it...
The stretcher is wedged through-tenoned, with walnut wedges. The
walnut comes out about as dark as the endgrain of the oak, so I may shift
to maple or something else light for future projects to get some contrast.
Finish is the same as the picture frame: 2-3 coats of Watco Natural, followed
by 2-3 coats of PaddyLac Dewaxed Lemon Shellac wiped/padded on, and rubbed-out
with white Scotch-Brite.
Close up of the dovetails on one end. Video resolution messes
this one up too :-(
